THINK BLOG: ROOT CANALS

IF YOU ARE ONE OF OUR STUDENTS YOU KNOW THE IMPORTANCE WE PUT ON UNDERSTANDING ROOT CANALS.

What is a root canal? It is a dental procedure done when a client complains of sensitivity or when they have an infection in the tooth. The dentist will drill a hole on the top of the tooth (or they can enter by going under the gums) then they remove the infection or nerve and seal the tooth.

It is important for non-dental professionals to be able to identify a root canaled tooth because it can interfere with your teeth whitening, tooth gem or grillz appointment.

HOW TO IDENTIFY A ROOT CANAL:

1. Ask your client during the consultation if they have had a root canal, if they have check for cracks on the tooth.

2. If they have cracks you should not continue the appointment.

3. The client has to see a dentist.

WHY CAN'T YOU CONTINUE SERVICES?

If the clients root canaled tooth is cracked it can be very painful if the whitening gels, adhesives or putty enters that crack. A large number of root canals end up in cracks if the client doesn't receive their final restoration.

I hope this helps you understand how to treat a cracked root canaled tooth!
